I tackled the most ambitious garden project to
date by digging the side yard up and taking out the sod plus about 9
inches of clay and replacing it all
with good top soil. It is 57 feet from the fence to the walk.
The project took over 3 weeks to accomplish from mid October into November. I
then planted well over 400 bulbs there (crocus, daffodils, lilies, dutch iris and more)and
also a few pansies. That open space without mulch will
be sown with seeds a little later. The crocus is a
fall blooming saffron crocus planted a
couple of weeks earlier. A little
taste of spring before I put the garden to bed.
