These are naked
ladies. They are actually a hardy variety of
amaryllis. Their foliage appears in early spring to feed
the bulb. When the weather turns warm, the foliage dies back
and we don't see anything of them until August. About the time
the weather turns intolerably hot, they send up sturdy
stems almost overnight and open into several delicate
trumpets. I really like them because there are so few other flowers blooming in the garden
in August. The green blades you see around the naked ladies are iris
leaves, so my naked ladies are not really so naked.
The last picture is
another color of crepe myrtle. It is unusual because
it has two colors, white and pink,
together.
