F inally my favorite lily has bloomed: an Oriental named Stargazer. I love the Stargazers for several reasons. They are the only Oriental lily that faces up, it has such a striking appearance and a lovely scent.
The last pictures
are all hibiscus varieties. The first one is a winter
hardy red one. The
huge blossoms are nearly 9 inches in diameter. The
next is a charming little annual hibiscus. It seeds itself
readily. The last picture is the "Althea" or "Rose of
Sharon" as it is often called. It is a flowering
shrub hibiscus that is winter hardy, as well. As with all hibiscus that I know about, the blooms last one day.
