From the very beginning, when we drafted our bylaws, we felt that our club should be open to anyone with a sincere interest in gardening. We have not tried to limit the membership by nominating, voting, or any other policy for excluding people. Our club has always been very welcoming. We love to work together on our projects and always have a good time at our meetings.
As of this writing, we have 25 members, and normally have about twenty members in our meetings.
We participate in the Garden Festival in the Park at Will Rogers every year. For the past several years, we have had a plant table, as well as organize and staff the cafe. Besides selling garden gloves, the festival is our only fund raising event of the year.
We have had several projects throughout the years (including flower beds at Teal Ridge Retirement Center, Superbia Retirement Center, and Childrens Center in Bethany, OK) and for several years we planted and maintained the flower beds at the corner of 36th and Portland in Will Rogers Park. We also take care of the front flower bed at the YWCA Battered Women's Shelter.
Most of our meetings are held at the Will Rogers Exhibition building in Oklahoma City - 12 months a year. We also take several field trips during the year, some taking the place of our regular meetings, and some extra outings. Some of our field trips have been visits to Philbrook and Gilcrease Museum Gardens in Tulsa; Sunshine Nursery in Clinton, OK; The Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden, Myriad Gardens in OKC, as well as many other public and private gardens in the area.
We also meet to work on our gardening projects when needed during the growing season.
